Anchor Robin Roberts received a bone marrow transplant on Thursday surrounded by family and fiends including ABC’s anchor Diane Sawyer, GMA’s Sam Champion, and her sister Sally Ann.

Roberts is being treated for MDS, a blood and bone marrow disease she was diagnosed with in June.  Just prior to the transplant, Roberts endured eight days of intense chemotherapy.

Her doctor, Dr. Gail Ropoz, appeared on Good Morning America and reported that Roberts is already wishing to leave the hospital, just one day after the transplant.  GMA showed a video clip of Roberts receiving the bone marrow, a procedure lasting about five minutes. Dr. Ropoz said that Roberts is being monitored for increases in blood cell counts and to guard against infection.
